The Data Science/GIS workshop series is powered by GIS and Data Service Center, and Research Education at University Libraries. This workshop series offers introductory to advanced level skills in GIS, Data Science, and Data Visualization, among others. This workshop offers an introduction to geospatial data visualization and analysis in R. R is a programming language designed for statistics with increasing popularity in academia, government, and other industries. The workshop will be conducted in RStudio, discussing the basics of R and geospatial data types and followed by a hands-on demo. Collections of code known as "packages" provide specific functionalities, many of which are particularly useful for working with geospatial data. Various packages to elevate visualization and streamline workflow will be introduced during the demo. No programming or GIS experience needed, just curiosity about mapping with R!
