BTAA Liaison Institute Winter Series 2021: Working with COVID-19 and Beyond

Topic: "How We Work: Administration and Professional Development"

Moderated by The Ohio State University
Hosted by University of Maryland

The Big Ten Alliance Liaison Institute Planning Committee presents a new opportunity for librarians with liaison responsibilities (both subject and functional) to meet up, talk about best practices, learn new skills, celebrate victories, and share experiences. This series aims to explore how the work has changed, which tools we use, what are the challenges, what are the future plans, as we navigate a world with COVID-19.

This one-hour moderated session will include interactive break-out discussions focusing on transformation and how our institutions might be revisioning professional development opportunities in response to our evolving “new norms and reality”.

Reading College & Research Libraries article and discussion prompts:

  • As library liaisons, managers, and administrators, how are we preparing for providing new skillsets to better serve our unique communities?
  • What kind of professional development opportunities should be focused on based on technology and various initiatives?
  • What should we stop doing to make room for what we could improve upon based on current service models?
  • Are lines blurred  between training v. professional development?
  • How are we leveraging or supporting our mental needs?
