BTAA Liaison Institute Winter Series 2021: Working with COVID-19 and Beyond

Topic: "“Ethical and Reparative Practices for Primary Sources”"

Moderated by Alan Akers, Josh Honn, Benn Joseph, Dana Lamparello, and Karen Miller, Northwestern University
Hosted by University of Maryland

The session will discuss specific projects that center reparative and ethical practices in our work with collections. The format will be similar to a lightning round, and will showcase three different approaches:

  1. Using visual materials to create inclusive spaces;
  2. Developing ethical digital curation practices with both in-house and community-based collections;
  3. Looking critically at the finding aid language and subject headings in archival collections.

The Big Ten Alliance Liaison Institute Planning Committee presents a new opportunity for librarians with liaison responsibilities (both subject and functional) to meet up, talk about best practices, learn new skills, celebrate victories, and share experiences. This series aims to explore how the work has changed, which tools we use, what are the challenges, what are the future plans, as we navigate a world with COVID-19.
