This workshop will introduce participants to the Music Encoding Initiative (MEI), an open-source schema to create machine-readable music scores. In this workshop, we will:
- Explain what MEI is and how it compares to other methods of computer-engraving and encoding.
- Explain what effects this has on preserving musical works from the late 20th and 21st centuries.
- Show the possibilities of working with MEI through existing projects
- Provide an introduction to coding material in MEI by working through a short melody
No prerequisite knowledge needed. Please bring a computer with internet access. Helpful introductory tutorial at https://music-encoding.org/
